OLD KENT RIVER

Premium Boutique Wines

Welcome to OLD KENT RIVER vineyard...Mark and Debbie Noack established their 15 hectares of vines in 1985. Initial plantings were with the varieties of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz planted in 1994.

Our vineyards are situated on the southern border of the Frankland River Region, along with 5 acres of vines in the Denmark Region where our cellar door and slow food café is situated on the banks of the Kent River, half way between Denmark and Walpole on the South Coast Highway.

The temperatures during the crucial growing period of the grapes are the coolest in the region and only slightly greater than that of Burgundy.

The 500 hectare Rocky Gully property has been home to three generations of Noacks. The property runs 1500 merino sheep and 60 head of cattle, along with freshwater crayfish (marron) in the dams. OLD KENT RIVER's lamb and marron are served at their 'slow food café'. It is a hands-on operation for the Noacks and they are still self-confessed battlers who handle all the farming and viticultural tasks and management of their cellar door in Denmark.

Michael Staniford makes the OLD KENT RIVER wines at neighbouring
Alkoomi Wines. Mark and Debbie deliver him cared-for fruit from low-yielding vines and he does the rest! The combination of Noack fruit and Staniford craft has indeed produced some magic over the past few years and the wines of the union have done very well on the Australian show circuit enjoying the greatest accolades.

A 5 star winery rating has been awarded to OLD KENT RIVER by James Halliday (Australia's most respected wine critic and wine writer) in his 2006, 2007 and 2008 Australian Wine Companion.

Although a small producer, our distinctive wines not only sell from our cellar door but also in restaurants and some retail outlets in Perth, Queensland, Sydney, Melbourne as well as internationally in UK, Canada, USA, Hong Kong and Malaysia.
